First try at sharpening with a whetstone. Cheap stone set from Amazon.  Still using a clip on angle guide. Long way to go, but damn if it doesn't  cut onions twice as

How did I do? My first time ever using a sharpening stone. Finally decided  to use my ninewa 400, 800, and 1000 grit stones to try and fix this dented  knife blade.

Am I over sharpening? I feel like i'm losing a lot metal? This is 3 months  difference (sharpened roughly once every 1-2 weeks). : r/sharpening

From my experience a file is all that is needed to sharpen axes and  machetes. Stones take a lot longer and dont have any tangible effect on  cutting performance : r/sharpening
